Went abroad 21 years ago, used to sell clothes and mosquito nets there, why is Gorakhpur’s Abhay imprisoned in Cambodia jail?

Patna NIA team reached Dhamak last Saturday morning to investigate allegations of human trafficking in a village in Khajni police station area of Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. Abhay Nath Dubey, a resident of this village, had gone to Cambodia about 21 years ago in search of a job. Recently, he has been accused of human trafficking, sending money from abroad and cyber fraud in the name of tourist visa. Cambodia Police has kept him in jail. NIA team arrived after receiving a complaint in the same case. The local police and tehsil administration were present with him. The team left for Ayodhya after interrogating the accused’s family members and taking other information.

The family members of Abhay Nath Dubey, resident of Satuabhar village of Khajani police station area, told the team members that he had gone to Cambodia about 21 years ago. There he used to sell clothes and mosquito nets by selling clothes. He also used to send money home. Abhay’s brother Siddhanath Dubey told the team that a few days ago he had fallen into bad company. After that he was accused of human trafficking. It has come to light that a person from Bihar trapped him and lured him that the more people you invite for foreign jobs, the more money you will get.

Cambodia Police made Abhay the main accused

On July 16, 2024, Cambodia Police raided Abhay Nath’s room, where 17 Indians were arrested. After interrogation and investigation, Cambodia Police sent 14 youths to the Indian Embassy, but arrested two youths from Janipur, Gorakhpur and Bihar. Munna Singh, a youth from Bihar, ran away from Cambodia police station. He was the mastermind of human trafficking. When he was not found, the police there made Abhay the main accused.

The NIA team searched the entire house for five hours. During this, six lakh FD papers deposited in the name of wife Manorama, bank passbook and other documents were recovered. During this time, some jewelery was also recovered, but Khajni Tehsildar Krishna Gopal Tiwari refused to sign the documents, calling the jewelery woman’s wealth. After this the team left the jewelery and took all the documents with them.

Before this, the team got everyone’s ID cards verified by the tehsil. Took photos of everyone together and took them with her as proof. Abhay’s wife Manorama told that at present our financial condition is very bad. The husband has been in jail for about four months. No news is available about him. I have two daughters. Both are studying in Delhi. The elder one is doing MCA and the younger one is doing BBA. We are very short of money. My brother-in-law Siddhanth Dubey had sent ₹ 4000 to his account just yesterday, but NIA seized his accounts also. How will our life continue in such a situation? No one is going to take any notice. Can’t understand anything, what to do.

Case registered against Abhay in Badhalganj police station

A case of forgery has been registered against Abhay and his four associates in Badhalganj police station. Sources tell that Anil Singh, a resident of Kodari village of Barhalganj police station area, had complained to the police that Rahul Chaubey of his village (who is a member of Abhay’s gang) had deposited Rs 80 thousand from me in his account by promising to get a job abroad. Had got the transfer done. Apart from this, one lakh cash was also taken. Sent from Kolkata to Cambodia on tourist visa on February 25, 2024. On reaching there I met Abhay Nath. They took my passport and gave me a computer in the name of doing an online job. No job was to be done from that computer, rather the target was to target an Indian and withdraw money from his account by fraud.

Anil told that people from India are sent to Cambodia on a large scale after getting tourist visas. Tourist visa is for two to three months, when it expires, it becomes very difficult for such people to come back. In such a situation, the people of his gang hand over the citizens who left here to Pakistani agents. Those people then commit cyber fraud etc. and remain there as hostages. Their life becomes very difficult. Abhay Nath Dubey is in jail in this case.
