People of Baiga community living in remote Vananchal village Shivlakhar of Mungeli district of Chhattisgarh were facing this problem for the last several months. But now due to the prompt initiative of the administration, relief has returned to the village.

The damaged solar pump has been repaired and restarted, after which regular drinking water supply has been restored in the village. This step has brought great relief especially to women and children, who had to go far for water.

Problems surfaced during Chief Secretary’s visit

According to the information, Principal Secretary of Chhattisgarh Government, Shri Sonmani Bora had recently visited Mungeli district. During this, he along with Collector Shri Kundan Kumar interacted directly with the villagers by setting up a Chaupal in Shivlakhar village, a dependent village of Achanakmar Gram Panchayat. During Chaupal, the villagers raised the biggest problem of the village i.e. drinking water crisis. People said that one of the two dual solar pumps installed under the Jal Jeevan Mission was lying dysfunctional for a long time.

The problem increased in summer

According to the villagers, the entire village was facing severe water problem due to the malfunction of the solar pump. Especially the women and children of the Baiga tribe had to go long distances to fetch drinking water. The situation became more serious as the heat increased. The villagers had demanded an early solution from the administration.

Quick instructions given on the spot

Seeing the seriousness of the problem, Principal Secretary Shri Sonmani Bora directed the Public Health Engineering Department in Chaupal itself to take immediate action. After this, the department, in coordination with the CREDA department, quickly completed the work of replacing and repairing the faulty solar pump. Due to the activeness of the administration, the pump started working again within some time.

Regular water supply started again in the village

As soon as the solar pump was started, regular drinking water supply has been restored in the village. Due to this there is an atmosphere of happiness among the villagers. Expressing gratitude to the government and administration, the villagers said that they have got great relief from the timely action taken. Especially women and children no longer have to wander for water.
