Now, almost 15 years after the release of the film, its director Nikhil Advani has talked about this disaster film. He has said that before the release of the film, the production house head was taking a test drive of Mercedes, but when the film was released, he had to buy Honda City.

‘Chandni Chowk to China’ was produced by Rohan Sippy and Warner Brothers. This was the first project of this studio in India. Later the studio left India. It was said that ‘Chandni Chowk to China’ also contributed to his leaving India. This film was made with a budget of around Rs 65 crores and did a worldwide business of Rs 53.45 crores. Nikhil Advani has spoken openly about the film in Cyrus Broacha’s podcast.

Nikhil Advani said, “Chandni Chowk to China had proved to be a big disaster. Its first half was excellent, but the second half was just… but it is still one of the most watched films of the country because children watched it a lot. I have met people who want something from me like tomorrow is not there and then I have met people who told me that they grew up watching Chandni Chowk to China.”

Nikhil Advani said, “At that time people used to say that Akshay Kumar will give the next big film and we made Chandni Chowk to China. Before the release, the head of Warner Bros. was taking a test drive of the Mercedes S-Class. After its release he bought Honda City. The film was thrashed in this manner. A media person stood near my building and said, ‘Nikhil Advani lives here, who wasted your money. Throw stones here. It was cruel. I knew the film would not do well. Knew there would be problems in the second half.”
