Who is Premanand Maharaj?

Premanand Maharaj, whose real name is Premanand Govind Sharan, is known today as a renowned spiritual guru. He is especially famous for his teachings based on devotion, simplicity and self-discipline. Premanand Maharaj is a follower of Radha Vallabh sect. His teachings focus on bhakti (faith), balanced life and inner peace, which influences many people.

Early life and retirement

Premanand Maharaj was born as Anirudh Kumar Pandey on 30 March 1971 in Uttar Pradesh. From an early age he was inclined towards spirituality. At the age of just 13, he left worldly life and took up sannyasa and started spiritual practice. He spent a large part of his life on the banks of the river Ganges in Varanasi. Here he gained spiritual knowledge through meditation, spiritual practice and under the guidance of gurus, which deepened his thinking.

After taking initiation into Radha Vallabh sect, he got the name ‘Anandswaroop Brahmachari’. Later he was identified as ‘Swami Akhandanand Ashram’ and then as ‘Premanand Govind Sharan’. His guru Gaurangi Sharan played an important role in shaping his spiritual life.
