A 24-year-old cancer patient in China asked for 2-hour companionship from a food app due to loneliness. Hearing his story, many riders came to meet him and offer support. With this support his condition improved and he was discharged from the hospital.
New Delhi: Sometimes even a small request touches people’s hearts. Something similar happened in China’s Foshan city, where the story of a 24-year-old cancer patient is winning people’s hearts on social media. This girl named “Little Lee” is battling a rare blood cancer. To reduce the loneliness of treatment, she used a food delivery service, but not to order food, but to ask for two hours of companionship.
According to a report in the South China Morning Post, Li has to travel the journey of his treatment mostly alone. Her father works abroad to cover medical expenses and brother is busy with his internship. When Lee felt extremely lonely after her fourth round of chemotherapy, she placed a strange order on a food delivery app. She simply requested one rider to “sit by my bed for two hours.”
When the first delivery rider fulfilled this unique request, he told the local rider club about it. What happened next became a beautiful example of humanity. Many other riders started coming to meet Lee after finishing their shifts. They often brought books, toys and food items with them.
Some riders brought milk, snacks, stuffed toys and books. Some decided to sit and talk with him. Some riders even changed their schedules to meet Lee. One rider said, “Lee doesn’t have any family with him all the time. I felt very sad for him and I could understand his pain, so I went to meet him.”
Lee’s story reached other corners of the country as well. Huang, a rider from Guangzhou, traveled three hours to encourage Li. Huang said, “Once some good customers gave me water to drink and asked about my well-being. Now I also want to help people in return.”
A 60-year-old cancer survivor named Wang also sent flowers to Li and told the story of her courage. After all this, Lee’s condition improved and he was discharged from the hospital on 20 April. Now she is waiting for the next phase of her treatment.
