TMC MP Sagarika Ghosh has given adjournment notice for discussion in Rajya Sabha on the issue of alleged use of force on NEET students. Alleging the use of pellet guns, he has described it as a matter of serious national importance.
New Delhi [भारत]July 27 (ANI): Trinamool Congress (TMC) Rajya Sabha MP Sagarika Ghosh on Sunday filed a notice seeking adjournment of the Upper House proceedings on Monday to discuss the alleged “excessive use of force” on students protesting against irregularities in the NEET exams.
In the notice addressed to the Rajya Sabha Secretary General, Ghosh sought suspension of the normal functioning of the House under Rule 267 of Procedure and Conduct of Business so that the issue could be urgently discussed. He said it was a matter of “grave national importance”.
“Peaceful protest is a constitutional right in our country. However, it is a matter of grave concern and alarm that student protesters became the target of lethal and semi-lethal force by security agencies during the recent peaceful protests against irregularities in examination papers,” the notice said.
It alleged that due to the use of pellet guns by the Rapid Action Force, there have been reports of injuries from pellet guns, including a student who may have lost his eyesight. “There are also disturbing eyewitness accounts of plainclothes persons using coercive and violent methods on students and questions have been raised as to who authorized the use of semi-lethal weapons like pellet guns and what protocols were followed,” the notice said.
Government will introduce anti-paper leak bill
The government is set to introduce the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026 in the Lok Sabha on Monday as part of its efforts to prevent future paper leaks in competitive examinations.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh will present this bill in the Lok Sabha. This bill has stringent penal provisions to deal with any case of paper leak.
According to the listed agenda of the Lok Sabha for Monday, Jitendra Singh will also move to pass the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026, after it is introduced in the House.
The bill includes seven key amendments designed to plug enforcement loopholes, set up dedicated judicial mechanisms and expedite criminal trials. The proposed law seeks to make significant changes to the 2024 framework by establishing strict timelines for both investigations and judicial proceedings. (ANI)
