hanoi [वियतनाम]July 15 (ANI): Indian Ambassador to Vietnam Tshering W. Sherpa met Politburo member and Foreign Minister of Vietnam Le Hoai Trung on Wednesday. During their meeting, Foreign Minister Trung expressed his deep condolences on the tragic boat accident near Phu Quoc Island in which 15 Indian nationals lost their lives. He expressed his sympathies to the Government and people of India as well as the families of the deceased.

Information about this meeting was shared by the Indian Embassy in Vietnam in a post on Instagram. The Ambassador thanked Foreign Minister Trung for the timely, close support and assistance provided by the Vietnamese authorities at this time of grief. He also expressed his deep appreciation to the Government of Vietnam for facilitating early repatriation of the mortal remains to India.

The post further said, “In line with our civilizational ties, the close cooperation between the two sides during this tragedy is a testament to our strong people-to-people ties. 15 Indian tourists died

Meanwhile, the External Affairs Ministry on Tuesday said New Delhi is “in touch” with Vietnam after the speedboat accident near Phu Quoc island in which 15 Indian tourists lost their lives. The tragedy occurred on July 11 when the tourist speedboat carrying 36 people, including 32 Indian tourists and four Vietnamese crew members, capsized amid rough sea conditions off Hoan Me Rut Ngoi island near Phu Quoc island.

Local man detained

Regarding the investigation into this tragic incident, in which Vietnamese authorities have detained a local man from southern An Giang province for alleged legal violations, Jaiswal said India is in touch to know what happened in the case. “We understand that the local government has launched an investigation, and we are in contact with them to learn more about this case and what happened in this particular incident,” he said.

Vietnamese news outlet VN Express International reported that the detained man was identified as Captain Nguyen Hong Hai, 57, a resident of Thuan Tien village of Son Kien commune in An Giang province and was temporarily living in the Phu Quoc special zone. The report said investigations are ongoing to ensure that any violations are dealt with strictly under Vietnamese law.

Earlier, the mortal remains of 15 Indian tourists who died when their speedboat capsized were brought back to Mumbai on Monday. (ANI)
