In Uttar Pradesh, 40.32 lakh women are being given financial assistance under the Widow Pension Scheme. The government is sending an amount of Rs 1000 directly into the accounts through DBT in four installments, so that women can become self-reliant.
Lucknow. Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh is continuously working for the empowerment of women. The objective of the government is to strengthen women at the economic, social and security levels. In this direction, Destitute Women (Widow) Pension Scheme is playing an important role. Through this scheme, more than 40.32 lakh widow women of the state are being provided financial assistance, which is helping them live a respectable life.
Widow Pension Scheme 2026: More than 40 lakh women are getting benefits
Through this scheme, Yogi government is providing direct financial help to those women who face livelihood crisis after the death of their husband. So far, 40,32,629 women have benefited under this scheme run by the Women Welfare Department.
If we talk about the figures, before the year 2016-17, about 17.31 lakh women were associated with this scheme, but now this number has increased to more than 40.32 lakh. This shows that the government is continuously trying to include more needy women with this scheme.
Pension amount is available in four installments: Direct transfer to account through DBT and PFMS
Under this scheme, pension is given to beneficiary women in four installments throughout the year. Every three months the amount is sent to their bank account in one go. The details of the installments are as follows:
- April May June
- July, August, September
- October, November, December
- January February March
In the year 2021, the government took a big decision and increased the pension amount from Rs 500 to Rs 1000. This amount is transferred directly to the Aadhaar linked bank accounts of the beneficiaries through PFMS (Public Financial Management System), due to which the entire process remains transparent.
Widow Pension Scheme Eligibility 2026: Which women will get the benefit?
The benefit of this scheme is given only to those women who fulfill the prescribed eligibility. The key points of eligibility are as follows:
- The woman should be a permanent resident of Uttar Pradesh
- the woman’s husband has passed away
- The woman must be 18 years of age or older
- The annual income of the family should be less than Rs 2 lakh
The government is trying to ensure that no eligible woman is deprived of this scheme.

Director of Women Welfare Directorate, Dr. Vandana Verma said that the state government is working with full commitment for the overall empowerment of women. The government aims to ensure that the benefits of the scheme reach every eligible woman. He also said that this scheme is not limited to just providing financial assistance, but it also inspires women to become self-reliant and live life with dignity.
