During the Congress demonstration on students’ issue outside the Prime Minister’s residence on Tuesday, the political atmosphere became more heated when Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi was detained by the police and removed from the protest site. The video of this incident is becoming increasingly viral on social media, in which policemen are seen picking up Rahul Gandhi from the road. During this action, many opposition leaders including Priyanka Gandhi, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav were also detained and taken away from there by bus.

What is seen in the viral video?

During the protest, Rahul Gandhi remained sitting on dharna on the road and was not ready to move from his place even amidst police action. In the viral video, several policemen are seen picking him up and taking him away from the protest site. Meanwhile, Priyanka Gandhi and other opposition leaders were also detained and taken away from there in a police bus. The demonstration was held near the Prime Minister’s residence to protest against the students’ issue and alleged police action. Congress leaders also raised slogans like ‘Give justice to students’ and ‘Make Prime Minister resign’.

Rahul Gandhi’s attack on the government after detention

After being detained, Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on the government. He said, “Modi ji, try every effort, use all your strength, this fight for justice of the students will not stop now.” He further said, “Arrest, put in jail, it does not matter. The power of our Satyagraha is greater than the power of the Modi government. The atrocities committed against our children will have to be accounted for.” Many opposition leaders including Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Priyanka Gandhi, KC Venugopal, DK Shivkumar, Jairam Ramesh, Randeep Surjewala, Pawan Kheda were present in the protest.

Talks took place before the protest, then police action

During the demonstration, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office Jitendra Singh and Home Secretary Govind Mohan also reached the spot. He urged Rahul Gandhi to end the strike, but Congress leaders said that his demands were not met.

Rahul Gandhi alleged that the government neither wants to fix accountability on the issue related to students nor is it allowing discussion on it in Parliament. At the same time, Priyanka Gandhi also reiterated the demand for the resignation of the Education Minister and discussion in the Parliament. Earlier, both the leaders had also gone to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and met the injured students. Shortly after the protest, the police took action and ended the protest by detaining several leaders.
