A vegetable vendor in Bengaluru is collecting data for AI training by wearing an iPhone on his head. He gets ₹350 per hour for this work. With this he can earn more than ₹ 1 lakh a month.
People walking on the road in Bengaluru are surprised to see a vegetable vendor. The reason is a strange gadget tied on his head, in which an iPhone is attached to his forehead. An Instagram user named Vaibhav has posted its video. According to the video, this vegetable vendor is collecting real-world data for Artificial Intelligence (AI) training. Vaibhav told that when he was going on his scooter, he saw this vegetable vendor with a setup consisting of “an iPhone and a memory card”.
According to Vaibhav, he went to the vegetable vendor and asked why he was using this headband. “I was going smoothly on my scooter, but I literally had to hit the brakes to see this,” he wrote.
The man told the Instagram user that the headband, which has an iPhone and a memory card attached to it, is recording things around him. This recording is for a company, whose name is not yet known. The company will use this real-world data to teach AI how the world looks and works. The vegetable vendor told that he gets ₹ 350 per hour for this work. Hearing this, many internet users calculated that he could earn more than ₹1 lakh a month.
Vaibhav wrote, “The answer? He is collecting real-world data for AI training. And to top it all? He gets ₹350/hour. Do the math: 10 hours a day = ₹3,500/day. That’s more than ₹1,05,000 a month.” Vaibhav was amazed that a street vendor could earn more than many office goers just by “helping collect data for AI”.
