Do Vat Savitri Purnima fast with this method
– On Monday, June 29, wake up early in the morning, take bath and wear clean clothes. Take a pledge to fast and worship.
– Keep seven types of grains, Lord Brahma, Goddess Savitri and other worship materials in the puja basket.
– Go near the Banyan tree and worship Lord Brahma, Goddess Savitri, Lord Shiva-Parvati, Yamraj and Savitri-Satyavan.
Offer Arghya while reciting this mantra-
Illegalvyam cha saubhagyam dehi tvam mam suvrate.
Putraan grandsonsaukhyam cha grihanarghyam namostu te.
– After this, while offering water to the Banyan tree, recite this mantra –
Vat sinchaami te mulam salilairamritopamaih.
As the branches grow, they grow and develop.
And son-in-law and grandson-in-law are always blessed with Kuru Maa.
– Make 11 or 21 rounds of the banyan tree and wrap it with raw cotton. Light a ghee lamp and listen to the story of Savitri-Satyavan and take blessings from the elders of the family.
Importance of Vat Savitri fast
According to religious beliefs, this fast is observed with the wish of long life of the husband, uninterrupted good fortune, family happiness and prosperity and welfare of children. Banyan tree is considered a symbol of longevity and stability.
Story of Savitri-Satyavan
According to the legend, Savitri, daughter of King Ashwapati, was married to Satyavan, whose age was said to be short. At the appointed time, when Yamraj came to take Satyavan’s life, Savitri pleased Yamraj with the power of her intelligence, determination and patriotism and received many boons. Ultimately Yamraj gave life to Satyavan again. Vat Savitri fast is observed in memory of this incident.
