Vat Purnima Fast 2026: The fast of Vat Savitri and Vat Purnima are considered the same. Only their dates differ. Vat Savitri fast is observed on the new moon day of Jyeshtha month. Whereas Vat Purnima fast is observed on the full moon day of Jyeshtha month. The importance, worship method and story of both the fasts are also similar. Both the fasts are kept for the long life of the husband and happy married life. Vat Purnima fast is observed 15 days after Vat Savitri fast. This year the fast of Vat Purnima is going to be observed on 29th June.

Vat Purnima fast is mainly observed by women in states like Uttarakhand, Maharashtra, Gujarat etc. On the day of Vat Purnima, women observe Nirjala fast and worship the Banyan tree and pray for the long life and happy married life of their husbands. Vat Purnima fast date

  • According to the Panchang, the Purnima Tithi of Jyeshtha month will begin on June 29 at 03:07 in the early morning.
  • Purnima Tithi will end at 05:27 in the morning of 30th.

In such a situation, according to Udaya Tithi, the fast of Vat Purnima will be observed on 29th June this year.

Vat Purnima worship method

On the day of Vat Purnima, wake up early in the morning, take bath and wear red or yellow clothes. On this day, women should mainly do 16 adornments. After this, take a bamboo basket and keep seven types of grains, fruits, flowers, roli, kumkum, raw cotton, lamp, saree for mother-in-law and makeup material etc. After this, go near the banyan tree and light a lamp and wrap raw cotton around it. Now apply tilak on the banyan tree with kumkum and turmeric. Offer gram and jaggery. Then touch the husband’s feet and offer him Prasad and fan it with a bamboo fan.

Importance of Vat Purnima

Banyan is said to have a deep connection with the culture, civilization and religion of our country. There is a religious belief that Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh i.e. the Trinity reside in this tree. Women observe a fast on the full moon day of Jyeshtha month and worship the banyan tree. It is believed that doing this brings blessings of a happy life.
