The Chief Electoral Officer has adopted a strict stance on the issue of misbehavior with BLO in Dehradun. All districts have been instructed to take strict action against the culprits.

The Chief Electoral Officer has taken seriously the case of misbehavior with a Booth Level Officer (BLO) in Dehradun district during the special intensive revision campaign going on in Uttarakhand. After this incident, the Election Department has issued strict instructions to all the districts.

Chief Electoral Officer Dr. B.V.R.C. Purushottam said that it is necessary to ensure the safety and respect of officers and employees engaged in election related work. He clarified that incidents of misbehavior or indecency with any BLO will not be tolerated.

Strict instructions given to all district election officers

The Chief Electoral Officer has directed all the District Election Officers of the state that if incidents like misbehavior or creating obstruction by anti-social elements with booth level officers or field staff engaged in election work are reported in any area, then immediate and strict action should be ensured against the people concerned. He said that no laxity should be taken in such cases and appropriate steps should be taken as per law.

BLOs are engaged in special intensive vetting campaign

Dr. Purushottam told that at present a special intensive revision campaign is being conducted in the entire state. In this important work, booth level officers are going door-to-door to verify voter related information and are discharging their responsibilities with full hard work and responsibility. He said that BLOs are an important link in the election process and their contribution plays an important role in keeping the voter list accurate and updated.

Incidents that lower the morale of field staff are unacceptable.

The Chief Electoral Officer said that incidents of misbehavior with BLOs and other field staff affect their morale. Such acts not only create obstruction in government work but are also an attempt to influence the democratic process. He said that it is everyone’s responsibility to provide a safe and positive environment to the employees engaged in election work.

Appeal for cooperation from voters

The Chief Electoral Officer has appealed to all the voters of the state to cooperate in the special intensive verification campaign. He said that citizens should provide necessary information to BLOs and field staff and cooperate in making the campaign successful. He said that keeping the voter list pure and updated is an important step towards strengthening democracy, hence participation of all citizens is necessary.
