In view of the increasing number of tourists, roads are being widened by cutting the mountains. Even trees are being cut. Various types of development works are taking place, due to which the natural beauty of Uttarakhand is also being damaged.
Now there are preparations to cut one thousand green trees for the water treatment plant of Song Dam project. About four hectares of forest land has been identified for this in the area near Maldveta. The Forest Department has also started counting these trees. Now permission is yet to be taken to cut these trees. Cutting of these trees will start as soon as the permission is received.
Drinking water will be supplied from Saung Dam
Let us tell you that earlier two thousand trees were to be cut on the forest land in Khalanga for this treatment plant, but when there was strong opposition there, the forest department refused to give the land. Actually, drinking water is to be supplied to Dehradun city and its surroundings from Song Dam. For this reason, it is proposed to set up a treatment plant here. Earlier, the Forest Department was giving land in Khalanga for this plant, but when the people there protested, the Forest Department refused.
2 thousand trees were to be cut in Khalanga
The people of Khalanga said that there was a proposal to cut about two thousand trees here. The Forest Department and the Drinking Water Corporation had started counting the trees and marking them, but as soon as they came to know about it, they came out in protest. Local people said that there is a historical Khalanga memorial here. The forest is also quite dense. In such a situation, the natural beauty of this place would have been greatly damaged by this water treatment plant.
4.2 hectares of land has been identified
Due to huge opposition, the Forest Department had to refuse to give forest land for this project. Now the forest department has identified land at the new place, but here also one thousand trees are coming under the jurisdiction of this treatment plant. VD Joshi, Deputy Ranger of Raipur Range, said that about 4.2 hectares of forest land has been identified by the Department for the treatment plant, in which the trees are being counted.
