Uttar Pradesh: Two killed as high-speed Thar rams motorcycle in Lakhimpur Kheri

New Delhi: A tragic incident in Uttar Pradesh‘s Lakhimpur Kheri unfolded in the early hours of the day when a high-speed Mahindra Thar ran over three people, leaving two dead and one severely injured.

The victims are identified as Jitendra Verma and his wife, Sarita Verma, who were returning from a wedding ceremony when Thar crushed into the motorcycle around 1:30 am.

Tragic loss of life

As the car rammed into the motorcycle, the impact was so severe that Jitendra died on the spot, while Sarite was rushed to the nearby district hospital, where she finally succumbed to her injuries during the treatment.

The third one who sustained critical injuries was Maya Devi who is Jitendra’s sister-in-law. She is currently undergoing treatment at the Lucknow Medical College.

Police investigation underway

As per the preliminary information, the driver of the Thar was also returning from a wedding ceremony in Shahjahanpur. The police are investigating the matter and while talking about the incident, Yadvendra Yadav who is a major senior office said, “Local police and emergency services rushed to the spot as soon as the incident was reported. The Thar was seized by the police, and a formal complaint was registered based on the statements of the family members.”

The senior official also reveals that the bodies of the victims were sent for a post-mortem, and the driver is currently on the run while police have launched the probe to catch him at the earliest.
