During the conversation with actress and anchor Tabassum, Ashok Kumar had narrated many stories. Ashok Kumar had told in this interview that there was a time when his ancestors used to be dacoits, but later the generation changed and they became singers and actors.
Ashok Kumar narrated the story of his ancestors being a dacoit
When Tabassum asked Ashok Kumar to tell him something about his ancestors. Then Ashok Kumar said, “An interesting thing about our ancestors is that my father used to say that about 150 years ago our ancestors used to commit dacoity in Bengal.” At this the anchor is surprised and asks, ‘Robbery?’
Ashok Kumar had said laughingly, ‘Yes…his name was Rohu Dacoit and he was very famous. He used to commit dacoity in the same area of Bengal. But he used to rob the rich and give money to the poor, that is why people loved him very much. Even Rabindranath Tagore has written something about him. After this, Ashok Kumar takes out a book and starts reading a few lines in praise of his ancestor.
Ashok Kumar’s two brothers were also famous
Ashok Kumar started his acting career with the 1936 film Jeevan Naiya. After this he gave many films one after the other. Ashok Kumar sang rap songs in many films at a time when no one even knew about it. Ashok Kumar’s two younger brothers Kishore Kumar and Anup Kumar were also associated with the film industry.
Kishore Kumar was a veteran singer and actor of Hindi cinema. Anoop Kumar produced some films along with acting. The legacy of Ashok Kumar and Kishore Kumar is still remembered. Both brothers ruled Hindi cinema for many decades and Kishore Kumar sang songs in many different languages apart from Hindi.
