UPI Transactions Register Highest-ever Monthly Volume In July, FASTag Transactions Decline

The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions have clocked their highest-ever monthly volume in July 2026. Nearly 23.66 billion transactions worth Rs 29.88 trillion have been recorded in the month.

According to data shared by the   (NPCI), transaction volume rose 4.1 per cent and transaction value increased 3.3 per cent compared with June.

Further, the transaction volume surged 22 per cent, while value rose 19 per cent.

Immediate Payment Service (IMPS) transaction volume rose 3 per cent to 364 million in July, from 354 million in June and 358 million in May, NPCI data said.

In value terms, transactions increased by more than 5 per cent to Rs 7.12 trillion from Rs 6.77 trillion in June and Rs 6.96 trillion in May. Compared with July last year, transaction volume declined 24 per cent, while value rose 13 per cent.

UPI value of transactions increased 3.3 per cent from Rs 28.92 lakh crore while on a year-on-year basis, transactionvolume grew 22 per cent, while transaction value increased 19 per cent.

UPI also expanded its presence in the global space

UPI is now live in about ten countries, including the UAE, Singapore, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, France, Mauritius, and Qatar, positioning India as a global leader in digital payments.

Its growing international adoption is boosting remittances, promoting financial inclusion, and strengthening India’s position in the global fintech landscape.

Recently, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) report on ‘Growing Retail Digital Payments (The Value of Interoperability)’ dated had recognized Unified Payments Interface (UPI) as the world’s largest retail fast-payment system (FPS) by transaction volume.

Further, as per ACI Worldwide report on ‘Prime Time for Real-Time’ 2024, UPI has around 49% share in the global real-time payment system transaction volume.

The Government, RBI and NPCI have initiated deepening digital transactions through RuPay and UPI across businesses including public services, transport and e-commerce platforms on a nationwide basis.
