To understand this, we need to look at the old rule. According to the notification from 30th December 2019, UPI payments had legal protection with zero charges, and there was no limit on the payment amount. This meant whether it was a ₹100 or a ₹50,000 UPI payment, it was protected. Now, for the first time, the new notification has added a ₹2,000 limit. So, UPI payments up to ₹2,000 are protected, but payments above that limit are excluded.
