Satpal alias Sattu, who was once a councilor and Ranji player, was killed in the Muzaffarnagar encounter. He targeted teenage girls on the pretext of jobs and took the secrets of 24 cases with him.
Muzaffarnagar: How did a player who once wore a white jersey and bowled with the country’s legendary cricketers on the Ranji Trophy field, become a henchman and a dreaded beast of the country’s biggest underworld don Chhota Rajan? This is the story of Satpal alias Sattu, resident of Pachanda village of Muzaffarnagar. Sattu was killed in an encounter near Bamanhedi railway station with a joint team of Civil Line police station and SOG of Muzaffarnagar late on Monday night. In the case of kidnapping and rape of an innocent girl from Titavi area, the police was actively searching for her. After the death of this 50-year-old criminal, who had become a headache for the police of four states, many sensational truths have come to light.
A journey from the playground to the underworld and Chandigarh’s ‘honorable’
The beginning of Satpal Sattu’s life was not like this. He was a talented cricketer and had played Ranji cricket tournament twice in 1996 in Mohali and Jalandhar. He also played matches with Indian cricket legend Yuvraj Singh. However, his anger and criminal tendencies were visible from the very beginning, when he fatally attacked Yuvraj Singh’s father Yograj Singh.

Sattu also entered politics and in the year 2007, he was elected councilor in Chandigarh Municipal Corporation. But, under the guise of white-collar politics, his criminal empire continued to grow. In 2010, he reached Meerut jail for the crime of robbing a truck laden with thread. From behind the bars of the jail, he joined hands with the notorious Chhota Rajan gang of Mumbai. After this he kept getting transferred to the jails of Muzaffarnagar, Meerut and Chandigarh.
Murder of wife’s lover and false drama of ‘SDM daughter’
After being released from jail on bail in the year 2024, Sattu wrote another horrifying tale of vengeance. He tricked his wife’s lover and called him to Samrala police station area of Chandigarh and brutally murdered him. He was sent to Ludhiana jail in this murder case. Even inside the jail, he used to play very cunning tricks. Once he distributed sweets in the barracks to mislead the jail administration and prisoners that his daughter had become SDM in UP, which was a complete lie. After this he started pretending to be seriously ill. On the basis of this drama, when he was taken to the Civil Hospital of Ludhiana on 6 February 2026, he escaped by dodging the police custody. After escaping, he fired at the Mayor of Chandigarh and started demanding extortion from the businessmen of Meerut.
That fake appearance of ‘Aniket Fauji’ and cruelty to teenage girls
After escaping from jail, Sattu looted a car from Saharanpur and started changing his locations in the districts of western Uttar Pradesh. He had changed his name to ‘Aniket Fauji’ and had also got a fake identity card prepared. He used to target helpless and job-seeking families at railway stations, bus stands and religious places. By pretending to be an army officer, he used to deceive poor families into getting government jobs.
His method of hunting was extremely creepy:
- Case 1 (Rampuri): A teenage girl was made to sit in a car on the pretext of a job. When the girl got suspicious near Sarsawa, she jumped from the moving car. The mob beat up Sattu, but the family did not file a case out of fear of respect.
- Case 2 (Karnal): Six months ago, calling himself a soldier, he brought a girl to Meerut on the pretext of an interview. A case in this regard was registered at Pallavapuram police station in Meerut.
- Case 3 (Titawi): Met a family at a religious place on June 18. Stayed at their house at night and took the father and daughter to the court the next day on 19 June. There the father was tricked into sending him away and the girl was kidnapped at gunpoint and taken to Punjab.
SSP Sanjay Kumar Verma told that he used to run through the forest paths instead of the main roads and used to commit gang rape with the girls on the strength of weapons. He used a small mobile phone with only keypad so that the police could not track him.
That last encounter near Bamanhedi railway station
The pot of Sattu’s crime was filled on Monday night. A joint team of police led by SSP and SP City Amrit Jain signaled to stop a suspicious car at Rampur intersection. Sattu, who was riding the car, started firing indiscriminately at the police team and ran towards Bamanhedi railway station. In this firing, SOG inspector Ajay Gaur and constable Ankit of Civil Line police station were injured, while the police vehicle was also hit by bullets.
The police retaliated in self-defense, in which Sattu was hit by bullets in both his legs and he got injured and fell down. The police immediately took him to the district hospital and then to a private hospital, where doctors declared him dead on Tuesday afternoon. The looted car, a pistol, fake identity card, cash and jewelery of the kidnapped girl were recovered from him. The accused in 24 serious cases of murder, robbery and rape in four states and 10 districts finally met his end with police bullets.
