CM Yogi Adityanath attacked the opposition during the discussion on Nari Shakti Vandan Act in the Assembly. Describing SP-Congress as anti-women, he enumerated the achievements of the government on women’s reservation and empowerment.

Lucknow. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath proposed a detailed discussion on the Nari Shakti Vandan Act in a one-day special session of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly on Thursday. During this, he made a scathing attack on Samajwadi Party, Congress and Indi alliance.

CM Yogi said that the amendment of this Act was to be implemented in 2029, but opposition parties opposed it in the Lok Sabha. He raised the question that when women are progressing and leading in every field, why are they being hindered in political participation.

Women’s reservation and political participation: Rights given to half the population

The Chief Minister said that it is important to make women not just beneficiaries of schemes but also partners in policy making and law making. He told that at present the participation of women in Parliament is around 15%, whereas in the UP Assembly it is between 11-12%. If 33% reservation is implemented, women will get representation as per their rights and effective discussion on their issues will be possible.

Accusation on opposition: Accusation of dropping the bill in Lok Sabha

CM Yogi said that on April 17, the proposal related to Nari Shakti Vandan Act was dropped in the Lok Sabha. He alleged that Samajwadi Party, Congress, DMK and TMC together opposed it and later celebrated it. Calling it anti-women conduct, he said that it has hurt the sentiments of the country and the House.

Women empowerment schemes: Mention of the works of Modi government

The Chief Minister mentioned the schemes being run for women under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

  • Bank accounts of crores of women opened under Jan Dhan Yojana.
  • Got gas connections through Ujjwala scheme
  • Health protection from Ayushman Bharat
  • Toilet construction through Swachh Bharat Abhiyan
  • Economic empowerment through Lakhpati Didi and startup schemes

He said that these schemes have played a big role in making women self-reliant.

Clean India and women’s dignity: freedom from open defecation

CM Yogi said that the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was not just about cleanliness but also about the dignity and safety of women. He said that 2.61 crore toilets were built in UP, due to which women were freed from the compulsion of open defecation. This benefited both health improvement and security.

Housing scheme and ownership rights: Women got respect

The Chief Minister said that under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, a large number of houses have been given in the name of women. 4 crore houses were built in the country and 65 lakh houses in UP, in which women got ownership rights. This has strengthened their social and economic position.

Social schemes: Support from daughter to employment

CM Yogi mentioned several schemes:

  • Kanya Sumangala Yojana
  • save daughter-educate daughter
  • Startups and digital projects

He said that these schemes have helped lakhs of daughters in education, marriage and employment.

Sharp attack on opposition: Accusation of “anti-women thinking”

The Chief Minister said that the opposition has always been against the empowerment of women. Referring to the Shah Bano case and the triple talaq law, he said that Congress and other parties worked against the interests of women. He also mentioned the old cases and statements of the leaders of Samajwadi Party and raised questions on its policies.

Women’s safety and crime: Double engine government’s claim

CM Yogi said that before 2017, the situation of women’s safety in the state was bad. Referring to several serious incidents, he said that now the situation has improved. Citing NCRB data, he claimed:

  • 45% reduction in murders
  • 19% reduction in dowry deaths
  • 67% reduction in rape cases

He said that crimes can be reduced only through women empowerment.

Final comment on the opposition: Accusation of “double character”

The Chief Minister accused the opposition of double standards. He said that it has become a habit of the opposition to say one thing in Parliament and another in the Assembly. He said that the parties opposing women’s reservation in the Lok Sabha are now talking about their support here, which reflects their conduct.
