Yogi Government Decision: Taking a big decision, the Yogi government has issued an order to appoint the outgoing heads as administrators in the gram panchayats of Uttar Pradesh. Yogi Adityanath government has taken a big and important decision regarding Gram Panchayats. The tenure of all the Gram Panchayats of the state is going to end on 26 May 2026. In such a situation, to keep the administrative system smooth, the government has decided to appoint only the outgoing village heads as administrators of gram panchayats. This decision of the government is being considered an important step towards maintaining continuity in Panchayat administration. According to the order, till the formation of new Gram Panchayats or for a maximum period of six months, the old head will handle the administrative responsibilities.
Pradhan will work as administrator from May 27
According to the instructions issued by the Uttar Pradesh government, the outgoing village head will start working as administrator from May 27, 2026. On the instructions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, all the District Magistrates have been given powers in this regard. The government has made it clear that the heads appointed as administrators will be able to perform only general and day-to-day administrative work. They will not be allowed to take any major policy decisions.

Why was this decision taken?
The tenure of Gram Panchayats is five years. After the end of the tenure, the state government has the right to appoint administrators to ensure that administrative vacancy does not arise till the formation of new Panchayats. Experts believe that by making the outgoing heads administrators, there will be continuity of development works and essential services in the villages. Also, administrative work at the local level will not be affected.
Permission will have to be taken for policy decisions
The government has also clarified that if it is necessary to take any policy or major decision in any special situation, then the related proposal will be sent to the District Magistrate through the District Panchayat Raj Officer. Further action can be taken on that decision only after getting the permission of the District Magistrate. That is, administrators have been given limited administrative powers.
Orders issued to District Magistrates
The state government has issued instructions to all the district magistrates to implement this decision. Its preparations have also started at the administrative level. According to sources, the government wants that the functioning of Panchayats should continue without any interruption and the development plans in rural areas should not be affected.
Eyes fixed on Panchayat elections also
After this decision of the government, now everyone’s eyes are on the upcoming Panchayat elections. Panchayat elections are considered very important in rural politics, because it is directly related to village development and local leadership. Political experts say that the role of the outgoing Pradhans as administrators can also affect the atmosphere of the upcoming Panchayat elections.

This step of the state government has come at a time when continuity of development schemes, cleanliness, drinking water and panchayat level services in rural areas is being considered a big challenge. The government claims that with this system the administrative structure of the Panchayats will remain strong and the common people will not have to face any problem in government services.
