68,780 applications have been received for 10,790 seats in Sarvodaya Vidyalayas of UP for the session 2026-27. Due to better education, discipline and facilities, parents’ trust in government schools has increased, due to which competition has also intensified.
Lucknow. The picture of government schools in Uttar Pradesh is changing rapidly during the tenure of Yogi government. Sarvodaya Vidyalayas, which were earlier considered a weak option, are now becoming the first choice of students and parents. There has been unprecedented enthusiasm for admission in these schools for the session 2026-27.
Record applications: More than 68 thousand applications for 10,790 seats
For session 2026-27, 68,780 applications have been received against 10,790 seats, which is almost 7 times more than the seats. This figure shows that the confidence of parents in the education system in the state is continuously increasing. Quality education, better facilities and disciplined environment have made these schools special.
Better facilities are available in 103 Sarvodaya Vidyalayas
A total of 103 Sarvodaya Vidyalayas are operated in Uttar Pradesh, out of which 70 are for boys and 33 for girls. Better education system, residential facilities and disciplined environment are being provided in these schools. This is the reason why not only rural but also urban area parents are giving priority to these schools.
Category wise details of seats: Separate arrangement for boys and girls
A total of 7,452 seats have been earmarked for the boys category. These include 4,661 seats in class 6, 920 in class 7, 924 in class 8 and 947 seats in class 9. At the same time, a total of 3,338 seats have been fixed for the girls category. These include 2,310 seats in Class 6, 294 in Class 7, 358 in Class 8 and 376 seats in Class 9.
Application data: Tough competition in boys and girls category
A total of 44,743 applications have been received in the boys category. This includes 22,088 applications for Class 6, 5,724 for Class 7, 5,530 for Class 8 and 11,401 applications for Class 9. A total of 24,037 applications have been received in the girls category. 12,214 applications have been received in class 6, 2,524 in class 7, 2,527 in class 8 and 6,772 in class 9.
A total of 68,780 applications have been received for both categories, indicating that competition for admission to these schools is stiff.
Impact of education reforms: Better facilities and discipline
According to the Social Welfare Department, continuous reforms are being made in the education sector under the leadership of Yogi Adityanath. Modern resources, better education and discipline in schools have given these schools a distinct identity.
