Lucknow. In view of the damage caused to the wheat crop due to untimely rains, the government has given great relief to the farmers. Wheat procurement for Rabi marketing season 2026-27 will now be done with relaxed standards. Its main objective is to protect farmers from losses and to prevent them from selling crops at low prices under compulsion.

Luster loss and broken grain limits increased

According to the government’s decision, now the acceptable limit for luster loss of wheat has been increased to 70 percent. Earlier this limit was less. Whereas the limit of shrunken and broken grains, which was earlier 6 percent, has now been increased to 20 percent. Due to this, wheat will be purchased from farmers despite the quality being affected due to rain.

Rule of separate storage and use within the state

Wheat purchased under relaxed standards will be kept separate from normal wheat. A separate record will also be prepared for this. This wheat will be used only within the state, so that quality control can be maintained and proper management can be done.

The responsibility of storage lies with the state government.

The government has made it clear that if there is any deterioration in the quality during storage of such wheat, the entire responsibility for it will be on the state government. Also, this stock will be disposed of soon on priority basis.

Relief to farmers and strengthening of agriculture sector

This decision is expected to provide relief to lakhs of farmers of the state, whose crops have been affected by the recent rains. This step of the government is considered important towards protecting the interests of farmers and keeping the agricultural sector stable.
