Alliance talks are going on between Congress and SP for the UP Assembly elections. The aim is to repeat the success of 2024 Lok Sabha. The final decision will be taken after the meeting of Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav. Both the parties are also strengthening their organizations.
New Delhi: Assembly elections are to be held in Uttar Pradesh next year. Earlier, Congress and Samajwadi Party (SP) have once again started talks for alliance. Both the parties are eyeing the success achieved in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, which they want to repeat in the assembly elections also. However, some local SP leaders are raising the issue that the grassroots organization of Congress is not that strong in the state.
The final decision on the alliance will be taken only after the talks between Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress and SP alliance had won 43 out of 80 seats in UP. It was a great success. Earlier, both the parties had fought separately in the 2017 assembly elections and BJP formed the government with a big victory. In that election, Congress had won only two seats and its vote share was only 2.33%. Even after 2017, relations between the two parties were not very good.
When Congress refused to give seat to SP in Madhya Pradesh elections, the distance between the two increased further. Congress leaders say that the decision on alliance will be taken by the party’s high command. At present, the party’s entire focus is on strengthening its organization. Congress is busy strengthening the organization in every district to increase its influence on all 403 assembly seats. At the same time, Samajwadi Party has also started work in the election field. Party President Akhilesh Yadav is touring the districts. A survey is also being conducted in every district to understand the caste equations before selecting the candidates.
Meanwhile, Congress and SP are also worried that if Asaduddin Owaisi’s party AIMIM contests the elections, there may be division of votes. Both parties fear that BJP may provide behind-the-scenes support to the parties of Owaisi, Mayawati and Chandrashekhar Azad to divide Dalit and Muslim votes. On the other hand, BJP has also started preparations for the elections. Recently, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had also made some changes in his cabinet.
