Unnao News: Seeing an elderly woman wearing a pallu on her head in the streets of the village, hardly anyone would suspect that she might be involved in the illegal liquor business. But the recent action of the Excise Department in Unnao revealed something that surprised even the local people. During the special campaign being run against illegal liquor, the Excise Department has raided Maurawan and Bihar police station areas and recovered 38 liters of raw liquor. Four people were arrested in this action, including women.

Special campaign of Excise Department continues

On the instructions of Uttar Pradesh Excise Commissioner and District Administration, a special enforcement campaign is being conducted against the manufacturing, sale and smuggling of illegal liquor in the district. Under this campaign, the team led by District Excise Officer Anurag Mishra raided many villages of Maurawan and Bihar police station area. Excise inspectors Nishant Singh and Pratibha Singh, in joint action with the local police force, raided villages Shivpura, Muraita, Kardaha and Kedarkheda.

Liquor cache found in raid

According to officials, a total of 38 liters of illicit raw liquor was recovered during the operation. Besides, about 100 kg of Lahan Mahua, which is used in making liquor, was also found on the spot. Seeing the possibility of illegal liquor manufacturing, the excise team destroyed the entire Lahan Mahua on the spot, so that it could not be used again.

Four people arrested, names of women also included

Four accused were arrested during the action. The arrested accused include Kedarkheda resident Bhulana wife Bhola, Binda Devi wife Gendalal, Shivpura resident Ramautar son of late Kanhai and Urmila wife Ramu. The Excise Department has registered a case against all the accused in the respective police stations under various sections of the Excise Act.

Surveillance being increased in rural areas

Officials say that surveillance is being continuously increased in rural areas to prevent manufacturing and smuggling of illegal liquor. Special attention is being kept on those areas where cases related to illegal liquor have already come to light. The department believes that such campaigns not only help in curbing illegal trade but also prevent possible incidents caused by poisonous liquor.

The Excise Department has made it clear that the campaign against illegal liquor will continue in the district. Departmental officials have also appealed to the people that if they get information about manufacturing or selling of illegal liquor, they should immediately inform the administration. At present, this action taken in Unnao is being seen as a major action against illegal liquor trade, in which the arrest of four people including women has made the entire matter a topic of discussion.
