Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a foreign tour of 5 countries. On the first stop of the visit, PM Modi reached UAE, where a deep consensus was reached regarding energy partnership between the two countries. Information regarding this has been given by the Ministry of External Affairs. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, after this short visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Abu Dhabi, India and UAE have agreed to deepen their energy partnership more than before. Under this agreement, UAE will deposit up to 30 million barrels of crude oil in India’s ‘Strategic Petroleum Reserve’. This agreement between the two countries is the result of talks between PM Modi and President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The two leaders also discussed the importance of safe movement and unhindered passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz in an environment of increasing regional tensions.
The Ministry of External Affairs said the two leaders welcomed the completion of a strategic cooperation agreement between Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserves Limited and Abu Dhabi National Oil Company. Its objective is to increase UAE’s participation in India’s strategic petroleum reserves to 30 million barrels.

Welcome a separate agreement for LPG supply
This step is expected to strengthen India’s energy security. Because at present there is a threat to the global crude oil supply due to disruptions in West Asia. Both countries also agreed to work together on establishing strategic gas reserves in India. Welcomed a separate long-term LPG supply agreement between Indian Oil Corporation and ADNOC.
Describing the UAE as an important partner in India’s energy security, the External Affairs Ministry said the two sides agreed to take new initiatives for large-scale energy partnership covering crude oil, LNG and LPG supplies. Apart from energy, an investment of $5 billion by UAE in India in banking, infrastructure and finance sectors was also announced during the visit. Besides, new agreements were also made in the fields of defence, maritime cooperation, shipbuilding and advanced computing.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Abu Dhabi came at a time when geopolitical tensions were rising in West Asia and volatility was continuing in global energy markets. According to the statement of the Ministry of External Affairs, the Prime Minister reiterated India’s strong condemnation of the attacks on UAE and expressed solidarity with the leadership and people of the country.
Emphasis on construction of new oil pipeline
The UAE will accelerate the construction of a new oil pipeline to double its export capacity through Fujairah port by 2027, the government’s Abu Dhabi media office said on Friday. This will greatly expand its ability to bypass the Strait of Hormuz. ADMO said that Abu Dhabi’s Crown Prince Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed, during an executive committee meeting, directed the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) to expedite work on the ‘West-East Pipeline’ project. ADMO also informed that this pipeline is currently under construction and is expected to be operational by next year.
