The attack took place in southern Kahramanmaraş province. According to officials, the accused student had reached school with 5 guns and 7 magazines in his bag. Provincial Governor Mukarram Unluar said that the student entered two classrooms and fired indiscriminately. During this time many students and staff got affected by it.

“9 dead, condition of many critical” – Home Minister
Turkish Interior Minister Mustafa Siftachi said in a statement that 9 people had died and 13 were injured in the attack. Of these, the condition of 6 is critical and 3 are fighting for their lives.
Children jumped from windows to save their lives
There was chaos in the school during the incident. In the video that surfaced, it was seen that children were running out of the first floor windows to save their lives. Many children were seen crying and coming out of the school premises. Ambulance and police reached the spot and immediately took the injured to the hospital and surrounded the area.

Accused shot himself, father in custody
According to officials, the attacking student was the son of a former policeman. It is suspected that he used his father’s weapons only. The accused died during the incident itself. According to the governor, he shot himself, but it is not clear whether it was suicide or an accident in the chaos. The police have taken the accused’s father into custody and started questioning.
There was firing a day before also, 16 people injured
A day before this incident, there was a shooting in a school in Sanliurfa, in which 16 people were injured. The attacker later killed himself. These incidents, which happened in two consecutive days, have raised big questions on Türkiye’s security system.
