According to religious beliefs, basil leaves should always be plucked only after taking bath in the morning. Before plucking the leaves, pay obeisance to Tulsi Mata and have faith in your mind. It is considered auspicious to pluck Tulsi Dal after sunrise and before noon. For worship, pluck leaves only as per need and do not pluck too many leaves unnecessarily.
According to religious beliefs, one should avoid plucking basil leaves on Sunday. Apart from this, plucking of basil leaves is also prohibited on the dates of Ekadashi, Sankranti, Amavasya, Purnima etc. If you need basil leaves for worship during these days, you can pluck them a day before and keep them. Know the method of worship including Muhurat-Mantra. This mantra can be chanted while plucking Tulsi leaves – Om Tulsyaye Namah.’ Apart from this, it is also considered auspicious to remember Lord Vishnu in the mind by saluting Tulsi Mata.
