Is the US-Iran peace agreement really the end of the war, or could a new crisis erupt again after 60 days? Will the opening of Hormuz avert the global oil crisis? Why did Iran express distrust in America despite the agreement, is the 60-day ceasefire in danger? When Trump is talking about peace, why did Netanyahu announce not to withdraw troops from Gaza, Lebanon and Syria?
Donald Trump Iran Agreement: Amidst the horrific devastation that has been going on in the Middle East for the last 107 days and the global energy crisis, US President Donald Trump has made an announcement that has surprised the markets and diplomats all over the world. Writing on his social media platform ‘Truth Social’ on Sunday, Trump announced that the peace agreement between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran has been fully finalized. Without wasting any time, Trump has approved the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz without any charges and has issued an order to immediately lift the US naval blockade. Hormuz opened, but will America and Iran be able to bridge the gap of trust?
In his statement, Trump announced the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and the removal of the US naval blockade. With this, a wave of relief ran in the global energy markets. Expectations of normalization of oil supply have excited international markets. However, Tehran’s stance still does not appear to be completely soft. Iran has clearly stated that the final terms will be negotiated during the 60-day ceasefire that will come into effect after the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). He has also reiterated his “distrust” in America. This is the reason why there is uncertainty regarding this agreement.

Iran’s distrust and 60-day ultimatum: is it just a temporary ceasefire?
Even though America is considering this agreement as its biggest victory, Tehran’s tone has still not completely changed. Iran has made it clear that this is only a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), and the actual negotiations on the terms of the final agreement will take place only during the 60-day ceasefire that follows. Iran has also reiterated its longstanding “distrust” of Washington. The ceasefire could last until the July 4 funeral of Iran’s former supreme leader Ayatollah Khamenei, whose farewell ceremony and funeral procession will take place in Mashhad on July 9. In such a situation, the question arises whether this peace agreement will last after 60 days?
Netanyahu’s open rebellion: “We will not step back from Gaza, Lebanon and Syria”
Just hours after the announcement of this peace agreement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has given a statement which has raised a big question mark on this entire peace process. Netanyahu said in stern words on Monday that Israeli troops would remain in Gaza, Lebanon and Syria “as long as necessary.” On the other hand, the tension at Ground Zero has not reduced; Hezbollah has claimed to have driven back two Israeli Merkava tanks through rocket and drone strikes near Nabatieh in southern Lebanon. It is clear from the stance of the allied countries that Trump’s path is not going to be so easy.

Suspense on sanctions and Trump’s last threat: “If the conditions are broken, we will be back there”
Donald Trump has called this agreement much better than former President Obama’s deal and a “strong document”. When Trump was asked whether Iran was given any relaxation in sanctions, he replied bluntly, “No, it is not so. They have to change their behavior.” Along with this, Trump has also threatened Iran in a warning tone that if Iran does not follow the terms of the agreement, America will “go back to where it started.” On the other hand, politics has heated up within America, and Democratic leader Chuck Schumer has demanded immediate transparency before Congress on this secret agreement.
