Jyoti (28), a PhD scholar at Panjab University, died due to electric shock. She was passing through waterlogged roads in the campus. After the students’ protest, the university promised Rs 16 lakh to the family and a job to the brother.
Chandigarh: A research scholar died due to electric shock in the Panjab University campus of Chandigarh. The deceased student has been identified as Jyoti (28). She was a resident of Rewari, Haryana and was doing PhD from the Microbiology Department of the university. This tragic accident happened on Tuesday.
According to the information, Jyoti was walking from the hostel towards her department. The road was filled with water and while crossing it, he got a severe electric shock. She fell away as soon as she got electrocuted. The people present on the spot immediately took him to the hospital, but the doctors declared him dead.
It is being told that due to heavy rains the main roads of the campus were flooded. The situation was the same on the road through which Jyoti was passing. There is an electric junction box installed near the road. In the initial investigation, it is suspected that the current may have spread in the water from this box.
After this incident, there was anger among the students in the university. They protested fiercely against the university administration. The students alleged that there was great negligence in the security arrangements on the campus. He demanded that action should be taken against those responsible for this and Jyoti’s family should be compensated.
Hundreds of students sat on strike outside the Vice Chancellor’s office. After this the university administration talked to Jyoti’s family and student representatives. During the conversation, it was decided that financial assistance of Rs 16 lakh would be given to the family and Jyoti’s brother would get a job in the university. After this assurance, the students ended their demonstration. Later the officials told that Jyoti’s brother has ITI qualification, hence he will be given the job of electrician in the university. At the same time, the police have also registered a case in this matter and started investigation.
