Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Chandigarh on July 17. Earlier, the police had issued traffic advisory and imposed restrictions on some roads. During this visit, PM Modi will launch projects worth about Rs 26,800 crore in Haryana, Chandigarh and Jalandhar.

Chandigarh Police has issued a traffic advisory ahead of PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Chandigarh on Friday (July 17), appealing to the general public to cooperate with the police. Commuters in the city have been advised to avoid certain roads on Friday afternoon, with details of temporary road restrictions and alternative routes ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit.

Issuing official guidelines for VVIP movement on Wednesday, law enforcement officials urged residents to plan their journey carefully and strictly follow the prescribed parking rules to ensure smooth traffic.

There will be traffic diversion on these routes

Highlighting the specific areas where there will be temporary disruption, the official notice said, “Traffic will be diverted/restricted from Chandigarh-Nyagaon Barrier to PEC Light Point up to Sector 2/3/10-11 Chowk on 17.7.2026 during movement of VVIPs. General public is requested to avoid the above stretch/road till 3:00 pm.”

In addition to the primary route identified, officials warned that additional restrictions may be imposed on various road sections throughout the day as part of safety protocols. “Traffic may be restricted/diverted on certain road stretches in view of the VVIP visit. In view of the above, the general public is requested to take alternative routes to avoid any congestion/inconvenience. Further, the general public is requested to follow the social media accounts of Chandigarh Traffic Police for real-time updates on traffic,” the traffic advisory said.

Regarding arrangements, the advisory said, “Guests, invitees and official staff are requested to park their vehicles only at designated parking spaces. General public is advised not to park/drive their vehicles on cycle tracks/walkways and no parking areas, otherwise strict action will be taken as per law and vehicles will be towed.”

Chandigarh Traffic Police in the official advisory also appealed to the general public to “cooperate with the police” and said, “We deeply regret any inconvenience caused due to these restrictions/diversions.”

PM Modi will give a gift of Rs 26,800 crore

Meanwhile, on July 17, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Haryana and Chandigarh to launch projects worth about Rs 26,800 crore. He will flag off India’s first hydrogen train between Jind and Sonipat at Jind Railway Station. During his Jind visit, PM Modi will unveil development projects worth about Rs 14,700 crore. He will unveil projects worth over Rs 6,600 crore in Chandigarh and over Rs 5,470 crore during his visit to Jalandhar.

Will flag off the country’s first hydrogen train

Flagging off India’s first hydrogen-powered train between Jind and Sonipat will be an important step towards adopting clean and sustainable mobility in the railway sector. The Prime Minister will dedicate to the nation as well as lay the foundation stone for national highway projects worth more than Rs 12,470 crore in Haryana, the release said.

The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for the 24.27 km long Hansi-Barwala Brownfield Highway Project, which will upgrade the existing carriageway to 2/4-lane configuration with paved shoulders. Further strengthening the road infrastructure in the state, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of national highway projects worth over Rs 3,070 crore.

The Prime Minister will inaugurate the 30.9 km long Package-6 of the four-lane greenfield Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway. This segment will facilitate easier and faster travel while reducing fuel consumption and vehicle operating costs, especially for heavy vehicles.

The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for the development of 25.2 km long six-lane greenfield Southern Ludhiana Bypass. The project will reduce travel distance and time between Ludhiana and Bathinda, while also improving connectivity to other major economic centres. (ANI)
