Tottenham To Host Manchester United In EFL Cup Quarter-Final Matchup

Tottenham will face Manchester United in the EFL Cup quarter-finals, aiming for a semi-final spot. Ange Postecoglou’s team defeated Manchester City 2-1 in the fourth round, marking City’s first loss of the 2024-25 season.

Timo Werner and Pape Sarr scored for Spurs. Meanwhile, United secured their place by thrashing Leicester City 5-2 under interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, following Erik ten Hag’s dismissal.

Arsenal is set to play against Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium in another quarter-final match. Mikel Arteta’s squad advanced by defeating Preston North End, while Palace surprised Aston Villa with a 2-1 victory thanks to Daichi Kamada’s second-half goal. The matches are scheduled for the week of December 17.

Brentford narrowly overcame Sheffield Wednesday on penalties and will now travel to Newcastle United. Newcastle reached this stage after a solid 2-0 win over Chelsea at home. Defending champions Liverpool will visit Southampton after narrowly beating Brighton 3-2. Southampton earned their spot with a late 3-2 victory over Stoke City.

The EFL Cup quarter-final draw includes eight Premier League teams: Tottenham vs Manchester United, Arsenal vs Crystal Palace, Newcastle United vs Brentford, and Southampton vs Liverpool. These fixtures promise exciting contests as teams vie for a place in the semi-finals.

Ruud van Nistelrooy took charge of Manchester United temporarily after Erik ten Hag was dismissed earlier this week. Despite this change, Sporting’s Ruben Amorim is anticipated to be appointed soon at Old Trafford. Ten Hag had ended a six-year trophy drought for United by winning the EFL Cup in 2023.

The upcoming matches are crucial for all teams involved as they aim to secure a spot in the semi-finals and move closer to lifting the trophy. Fans eagerly await these clashes to see which teams will advance further in the competition.
