The alliance of Congress, Samajwadi Party and Bharatiya Janata Party is on the verge of breaking in the Maharashtra assembly elections. Earlier in Uttar Pradesh, Congress supported Samajwadi Party in the by-elections and in return Congress wanted SP to stand with Congress in Maharashtra assembly elections. But the biggest face of SP in Maharashtra, Abu Asim Azmi is continuously putting pressure on Akhilesh Yadav.
Abu Asim maintained pressure on Akhilesh to contest elections on about a dozen seats of Maharaj. During this time, Akhilesh Yadav not only visited Maharashtra but also announced the names of four candidates even before the alliance. Apart from this, Akhilesh Yadav also demanded 12 seats for the Samajwadi Party in Maharashtra from the alliance of India and Congress, but on the contrary, Congress in Maharashtra did not come under the pressure of SP. Meanwhile, SP has till now fielded its candidates on 9 assembly seats in Maharashtra. The name has been announced.
4th November, last date for withdrawal of nominations
Most of these candidates come from the Muslim community. Samajwadi Party understands very well that if Congress does not form an alliance with it and Samajwadi Party enters the electoral fray in Maharashtra, then Congress will be the direct loser. In such a situation, today is the last date for withdrawal of nomination in Maharashtra Assembly elections. The Congress high command is in touch with the Samajwadi Party chief.
If things don’t work out, Congress may suffer losses.
Congress has made its intentions clear. Samajwadi Party should ask the candidates on all the seats except its two sitting MLAs to withdraw their names, but neither Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav nor Abu Asim Azmi have revealed their cards in this regard yet. In such a situation, it is believed that if Samajwadi Party does not withdraw the names of its candidates on today’s last date for withdrawal of nominations, then Congress may suffer a big loss in the Maharashtra Assembly elections.
Elections for 288 assembly seats in Maharashtra are held in a single phase on November 20. The results will be declared three days later i.e. on 23rd November.
