Mitali Bag Attacked in Hooghly: The tension in West Bengal politics increased further on Monday when the car of Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mithali Bagh was allegedly attacked in Hooghly district. The incident took place in Goghat area, where the MP was going to Arambagh to attend Abhishek Banerjee’s road show. During this time, there is an allegation that his vehicle was attacked with bricks, stones and sticks. After the attack, Mithali Bagh became emotional and cried profusely in front of the camera. She said that somehow she was able to escape from there after saving her life.

Attack occurred on the way to road show
According to the information, TMC MP Mithali Bagh was going from Goghat to Arambagh, where party leader Abhishek Banerjee’s road show was organised. Meanwhile, some people surrounded his car and attacked it with stones, bricks and sticks. The glass of his car was broken and the vehicle was badly damaged in the attack. Both the MP and his driver were injured in the incident. In injured condition, both of them were immediately admitted to Arambag Medical College Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.

Pain expressed in front of camera
Mithali Bagh looked very emotional while talking to the media after the attack. She said, “Look at the condition of my car. They threw big stones. I somehow managed to escape with my life.” Both fear and anger were clearly visible in his eyes. After the incident the local political atmosphere has become more heated.
TMC accused BJP supporters
Trinamool Congress has blamed BJP supporters for this attack. The party alleges that BJP supporters attacked the MP’s vehicle in a planned manner in Goghat. TMC posted on social media saying that such incidents have increased after the recent remarks of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The party claimed that the attack came after threats such as “whoever comes out of the house will be hanged upside down”.
However, there has been no immediate official response from BJP on this allegation.

Abhishek Banerjee reached the hospital
As soon as information about the incident was received, senior TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee reached Arambagh Medical College Hospital and met Mithali Bagh. He took information about the entire matter and inquired about the condition of the MP. This meeting is also being seen as a message of unity within the party.
