The police action against Trinamool leader and municipality chairman Dipankar Bhattacharya, arrested in North 24 Parganas district of Bengal, is revealing.
After his arrest from the hotel, on Wednesday the police took him along to the field near the Trinamool office, where by digging the ground, four trolley bags and a sack filled with notes were recovered.

Lakhs of rupees have been confirmed, although local people claim that the amount could reach several crores. According to eyewitnesses, all the recovered bags were filled with wads of Rs 500 notes.
Earlier on Monday night, the police had recovered about four thousand government tarpaulins and about Rs 80 lakh in cash from an abandoned computer centre.
It is alleged that on the night of May 24, Dipankar and his associates were trying to remove government tarpaulins by loading them in the vehicle. Upon receiving the information, the police arrived, before which the accused had fled.
A huge amount of burnt documents were also found at the spot. 27 lakh cash and 626 cartridges were recovered from the house of the Zilla Parishad officer. Meanwhile, in Gobardanga, Trinamool leader and Zilla Parishad Karmachari Ajit Saha and his brother Sujit Saha have also been arrested.
Rs 27 lakh in cash, 626 rounds of bullets, pistol, air gun and bottles of foreign liquor have been recovered from his house. The police is engaged in a thorough investigation of the entire matter. The opposition has described this as evidence of an organized network of extortion and corruption in the state.
