He said that he respects this important post and does not consider it appropriate to continue in such a situation. Hakim said, “I am resigning from the post of Mayor of Kolkata because I am not able to do my job properly and I cannot disrespect this post.”

Revolt in TMC, 58 MLAs formed separate opposition group
Dissatisfaction within the party has now started coming out openly. Assembly Speaker Rathindra Nath Bose on Wednesday recognized 58 rebel TMC MLAs led by MLA Ritabrata Banerjee as the main opposition group. The rebel MLAs allege that the party leadership is taking decisions in a dictatorial manner and the opinion of the MLAs is not being given importance.
Mamta Banerjee busy in convincing the MLAs
According to the report, TMC chief Mamata Banerjee is making efforts at the personal level to stop the growing discontent in the party. It is being told that he has directly contacted many MLAs of Howrah, Murshidabad and North Dinajpur. Many of these MLAs had earlier attended the meetings of the rebel group led by Ritabrata Banerjee. In such a situation, the party leadership is trying to get back their support.
Ritabrata faction claimed the opposition party
Political developments intensified on Wednesday when 58 out of 80 TMC MLAs supported the proposal to make Ritabrata Banerjee the leader of the opposition. After this, Assembly Speaker Rathindra Bose accepted this claim, due to which the Ritabrata faction got a big political advantage.
Controversy increased due to allegations of fake signatures
Another controversy came to light during this entire matter. After a meeting held in Kalighat, allegations were made that the signatures of some MLAs on the letter supporting Ritabrata Banerjee’s name as leader of the opposition were fake. Speaking to PTI, a senior TMC leader said that Mamata Banerjee is constantly contacting the MLAs personally and asking them to attend the meeting held in Kalighat on Friday. According to the leader, the party is trying to keep the path of dialogue open and find the possibility of some kind of compromise.
Questions raised on Farhad Hakim’s future
After the rebellion that started last week, questions are being raised on the status of many senior TMC leaders. Among these, Farhad Hakim’s name also figured prominently. Hakim is counted among the most influential leaders of the party, hence his resignation is being considered politically important.
Mamta Banerjee accepted resignation
Earlier this week, TMC MLA Kunal Ghosh had informed that Mamata Banerjee has accepted Farhad Hakim’s request to step down. According to reports, Kunal Ghosh told that earlier Hakeem was asked not to resign. However, later he once again sought permission from Mamata Banerjee to step down, after which the party chief accepted his demand. Now amidst Hakeem’s resignation and the ongoing rebellion in the party, TMC is facing a big challenge to keep the organization united.
