Now the traffic rules around Delhi’s IGI Airport have been made more strict than before. A new high-tech camera-equipped system has been implemented here, the purpose of which is to increase road safety, enforce traffic rules and reduce the problem of traffic jams. This area is one of the busiest airport zones in the country, where thousands of vehicles come and go every day. In such a situation, this step has been taken to control the traffic in a better way.

Delhi Traffic Police and Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL-GMR) have jointly implemented the automated e-challan system around the airport. The special thing about this system is that presence of traffic police on the spot will not be necessary. The entire work will be done through cameras and digital systems, which will increase both transparency and speed.

ANPR cameras installed

Under this project, 14 high-definition Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras have been installed so far. These cameras read and record the number plates of vehicles in real time. About 35 more cameras will be installed in the coming time. After this, almost the entire road network of the airport will be monitored.

For violation of which rules challan will be issued?

This new system can automatically detect many types of traffic rule violations. Like overspeeding, no parking, wrong side driving, tripping on bike, nine helmets, crossing the stop line and jumping red light. As soon as any rule is broken, an e-challan will be issued immediately. This entire system is based on technology. When a vehicle breaks the rules, the camera captures its photo and details. This information is sent to the system of National Information Center (NIC), where it is linked with the data of Delhi Traffic Police. After this the officers check the footage and if found correct, an e-challan is issued to the vehicle owner.
