The Hundred 2026: On the opening day of The Hundred 2026, the Birmingham Phoenix team has suffered a big setback. England’s star all-rounder and Birmingham Phoenix captain Jacob Bethel has been ruled out of the entire tournament due to injury. With Bethel out, Phoenix will not only have to choose a new captain but will also have to announce his replacement. Jacob Bethel was a part of the England team in the recent T20 ODI series played against India.
Knee injury increased the problem
According to media reports, 22-year-old England T20 team vice-captain Jacob Bethel suffered a knee injury during the recently concluded ODI series against India. He underwent an MRI scan on Monday and now the England and Wales Cricket Board is waiting for the report on the severity of the injury. It is feared that due to this serious knee injury, Bethel may remain away from the field even after The Hundred tournament. In such a situation, clouds of crisis are looming over his playing in the Test series against Pakistan starting from 19th August.
Becomes victim of injury for the second time in 2 months
The past few times have been full of injuries for England cricket’s new rising star Jacob Bethel. This is the second time in just 2 months that he has been out of a major tournament. Earlier, he had injured his finger during IPL 2026, due to which he was out of the tournament midway. Bethel could play only 7 matches in the IPL that season, in which he scored 96 runs at an average of 13.71. This young player, who is batting in excellent rhythm, getting injured repeatedly has become a matter of concern for Birmingham Phoenix as well as the England cricket team.
