Maruti Suzuki has removed the CNG variant of compact SUV Grand Vitara from its Nexa website. There is a possibility that the company may soon close this model. At present, its official announcement has not been made. Maruti launched the CNG variant of Grand Vitara’s factory-cut a few years ago. The special thing is that it was the first CNG car in the compact segment.
This decision can be taken due to low sales of Maruti Grand Vitara’s CNG variants. However, we do not have accurate information about how many CNG models of Grand Vitara have been sold till date. People’s feedback shows that people did not like the factory-fitted CNG kit in Grand Vitara. There can be many reasons for this.
This reason can be less power
The CNG variant of the Grand Vitara was available with a 1.5-liter natural aspirated petrol engine, which gives 102 Bhp and 137 Nm peak torque. With CNG, this engine gives power of 87 bhp and torque of 121.5 Nm. Although it is enough to run in the city, but this power on the highway is not particularly enough for a mid size SUV, you will feel a lack of power.
Not popular in fleet segment
The biggest demand of the CNG model comes from the fleet segment, which buy CNG cars for the cab. Therefore, there is such a strong demand for CNG in models like Dzire, WagonR and Swift. Grand Vitara or any mid-size SUV cannot be a popular option in the fleet segment due to being more expensive. Apart from this, Maruti did not launch a tour version of Grand Vitara like the models mentioned above.
Maruti is bringing e-vitara
Maruti Suzuki is going to launch the electric version of Vitara soon. During the Auto Expo 2025, at the time of its start in India, Maruti Suzuki told the basic information about its first battery electric car E Vitara. Electric SUV range, weight and performance figures have been revealed. E Vitara will be exported from India to global markets, starting production in Suzuki’s Gujarat plant in May. It is expected that E Vitara will also be launched in India in May, although the car manufacturer has not yet issued any official statement.
