Naini Lake
It is called the Lake District of India because it is surrounded by lakes on all sides. The word ‘Naini’ means eyes and ‘Taal’ means lake. Nainital, the city of lakes, is a very popular tourist destination in the state of Uttarakhand. Lakhs of domestic and foreign tourists come to enjoy sailing in this beautiful lake. A beautiful view of the surrounding mountains can be seen in the water of the lake. Its beauty increases even more at night when there are lights all around.
Bhimtal Lake
Bhimtal Lake is a tributary lake. It is 10 km north of Kathgodam in Uttaranchal. Its length is 1674 meters, width is 447 meters and depth ranges from 15 to 50 meters. This lake is bigger than Nainital. Situated on Bhimtal Lake in the center of the city. Because of ‘Bhimakar’ this lake is called Bhimtal. But some people associate this rhythm with Pandu’s son Bhima.

Sattal is situated at a distance of about 23 km from Nainital and 3 km from Bhimtal and at an altitude of 1370 meters above sea level. Sattal is a unique, wonderful and astonishing place. There is a group of seven lakes at this place, some of which are now extinct. The specialty of this taal is that it has seven continuous taals connected to it. That is why it is called ‘Sattal’. Where this lake is famous for its natural beauty. It is also famous for man’s art. This is the reason why this lake is the best among all the lakes of Kumaon region.

Khurpatal is a lake 12 km (39,000 ft) from Nainital. It is a famous tourist destination of Uttarakhand state of India. Khurpatal was named Khurpatal because its shape is like a horse’s hoof. Even though the government spends crores of rupees for the development of lakes, the construction of these lakes continues even today. The special thing about this lake is that as soon as algae seeds are formed, the lake starts changing its color.
Masar Lake
Massar Tal is one of the most isolated lakes in the Garhwal region. The area around the lake has alpine green meadows. In the local language it is also called ‘Bugyal’. These grasslands are covered with different types of vegetation, walking on them barefoot gives the feeling of flying in the clouds. The lake is situated below Masar Top and on the left bank of Dudhunga Bamak (West).
