Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto said Bangladesh’s win was the country’s best result in history. “This is the biggest win so far for Bangladesh in any format,” Najmul said. “Going forward we want to do something special in the future.”

The second Test starts in Mackay on August 22. Leading into the Test in Darwin, Bangladesh lost a Test match to   by an innings and 85 runs, then were thrashed by a Cricket Australia XI in a warm-up game. “We need to be consistent as a team,” Najmul said.

Australia captain Pat Cummins refused to rule out making changes to the team. “It’s one Test but it’s also a little bit of a trend as well,” Cummins said about the batting issues at the top of the order. “So it’s trying to work out, do you need to intervene now or do you let it play out and you think it’s the way forward? So I think that’s the question over the next couple of days that we’ll sit down and have a think about,” he added.
