Good news for Sanjiv Goenka, he won a championship in his very first year as a team owner in England’s tournament, The Hundred. Ahead of the 2026 season, Goenka reportedly paid around Rs 1,251 crore to buy a 70 per cent controlling stake in the Manchester based team, renaming them the Manchester Super Giants (MSG).

The investment paid off on Sunday at Lord’s where MSG defeated the Trent Rockets by five wickets to capture their first-ever The Hundred title.

Who was the standout player of the tournament and final?

The hero of the victory for MSG was New Zealand batter Tim Seifert. He played a brilliant knock, scoring 72 runs off just 38 balls, including 7 sixes and 4 fours, reaching his fifty in only 23 balls. Seifert was also named the Player of the Tournament for scoring 394 runs across 10 innings in The Hundred 2026. Batting first, the Trent Rockets scored 158 for 8 from their 100 balls. Aneurin Donald was their top scorer with 38 runs off 19 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes while all-rounder Lewis Gregory added a quick 32 off 16 balls with 2 fours and 3 sixes. For the Manchester Super Giants, Afghan spinner Noor Ahmad was the standout bowler with 3 wickets for 33 runs, supported by fast bowler Sonny Baker, who took 2 wickets.

What did match winner Tim Seifert have to say about the win?

‘Yeah, look, the main thing is we won tonight and we take that. But yeah, what an amazing last five games we played in the tournament and yeah, to lift the trophy, and yeah, how good,’ Seifert said after the final.

‘I think from the get-go we’re a well-balanced side, and I think a lot of people chipped in when they needed to as well. I think you look at Paul not playing the start of the tournament and coming in, doing what he did, it just shows the depth that we have in the squad,’ the MSG opener added.
