Uric Acid is a waste product that is formed by the breakdown of purines in the body. Purines are found in some foods and are also made by the body. Some uric acid is necessary for many functions of the body. It dissolves in the blood and is excreted by the kidneys through urine.
According to Kapil Tyagi, Director of Ayurveda Clinic, there are many reasons for increasing uric acid level, including excessive consumption of purine-rich foods like red meat, organ meat, seafood, alcohol and sugary items, obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney disease and some medicines like diuretics (water pills) and aspirin etc.
Disadvantages of increasing uric acid? If uric acid becomes too much, it can form into crystals that can be deposited in the joints, causing gout. There is also a risk of kidney stones, heart disease, stroke etc.
