Shubman Gill batted brilliantly in the first innings against New Zealand in the Mumbai Test. After 4 wickets fell at the score of 86 runs, he made a partnership of 96 runs with Rishabh Pant. Even after his dismissal, he persisted and was out just 8 runs away from equalizing New Zealand’s score. He scored 90 runs in 146 balls in adverse conditions on a difficult pitch. There is a big secret hidden behind his special innings. Gill himself revealed at the end of the second day’s play that he batted with a special bat in this match.
Which bat did Gill use?
Shubman Gill held a press conference after the second day’s play. During this, he told that in the Mumbai Test against New Zealand, he was batting with the same bat with which he played against England and had scored 2 centuries and 2 fifties. Let us tell you that in the England Test series held during February-March, Gill played 4 important innings with this bat, in which he scored 104, 91, 52 not out and 110 runs.
Gill also revealed that before the England series, he had made a lot of technical improvement in playing spin. Because of that he is able to bat well. He described his 90-run innings against New Zealand as one of the best innings in his Test cricket career so far.
Shubman Gill is not under any pressure
During the press conference, questions were also raised about his batting position. He was asked whether he is under pressure to score runs because he is at number 3. Responding to this, Gill said that he is not under any kind of pressure. He has had a good year in terms of Test cricket.
Although, he got some good starts but he could not convert them into big runs. He said that his mentality was the most important aspect behind batting under pressure on the second day. According to Gill, he was just trying to enjoy the game and was thinking about batting for longer periods instead of runs.
