The temperature in any area is 40 degrees Celsius or more and the hot wind blowing here is called Loo.

To avoid heatwave, heat stroke or extreme heat, it is very important to keep the body healthy from inside. Let us tell you through the doctor of AIIMS how you can keep your body cool even in extreme heat.

Dr. Reema Dada, Professor in the Department of Anatomy and Incharge of Molecular Reproduction and Genetic Lab at Delhi AIIMS. TV9 had a special conversation on this topic. Dr. Reema has been researching on yoga and its benefits for the last several years.

Dr. Reema says that since it is hot, people should at least go out. If you want to take a walk or exercise, you should go early in the morning. Experts say that it is best that everyone at home along with the family should adopt yoga. Two pranayams are very beneficial in this, that is Sheetali Pranayam and Sheetkari Pranayam. By doing both these the temperature of our body reduces naturally. Both of these are called techniques of cooling pranayam.

Shitali Pranayam In this, breath is taken in through the mouth by folding the tongue like a tube and then out through the nose. In this way it feels like cold air enters our body and we feel coolness.

Those who have difficulty in doing Sheetali can do Sheetkari. Keep in mind that you always have to sit straight while doing those pranayam. While doing this you can repeat it 8 to 10 times.

Many benefits of Sheetali and Sheetkari

By doing these pranayams which provide relief from heat, the body gets many other benefits. This includes reducing stress or anxiety, relieving acidity, helping digestion, controlling blood pressure and maintaining calm mind. You can do these after yoga or exercise.

Pay special attention to these things

  1. Wear cotton, light colored clothes.
  2. Eat food in such a way that you can maintain your hydration.
  3. Ignore cold drinks, sweet drinks and instead it is best to consume buttermilk, Belpatra sherbet and Sattu.
  4. Eat light vegetables like ridge gourd, tinda, gourd.
  5. Apart from this you can do Chandrabhedan and Vajrasana.
  6. Also avoid doing high intensity exercise.
