New plant will grow from potato sprout
Planting a potato in the soil like a seed does not make the plant grow. To grow potatoes you will need sprouted potatoes. Cut the potatoes into small pieces and plant them in the soil. In each piece a new plant is born from at least one sprout. By planting them at a depth of 4 to 5 inches, you will get a good crop after some time.
Ginger
Ginger has no seeds and can be grown without soil. A lump of fresh ginger is used to grow it. Choose a piece of ginger that has small eyes or sprouts growing on it. Bury it in slightly moist soil. Moisten the soil regularly. You will find that the ginger plant will start growing.

Garlic
Instead of planting whole garlic, remove its cloves. Now the bud has to be pressed into the soil keeping the pointed part upwards and level the soil on top. You will see leaves starting to emerge within a few weeks.
