Border Gavaskar Trophy: The selectors have announced Team India late night for the Border Gavaskar Trophy. An 18-member team has been announced for this series. In which many players who could have made a place in the team were dropped while players close to coach Gambhir and Jai Shah got a chance in this series.
Rahul and Nitish got a chance
Who got a place in Team India because of his closeness to Gambhir. Among them are middle-order batsman KL Rahul and all-rounder Nitish Reddy. Rahul has been in search of his form for some time now and despite continuously struggling to score runs, he has got a place in the team. Gambhir had also defended Rahul in the press conference and said that he may be given more chances.
Rahul’s performance disappointing
If we look at Rahul’s form this year, he has scored 234 runs in 8 innings of 5 matches played this year at an average of around 33. This year Rahul has not been able to score even a century in Tests. Rahul has scored 2 half-centuries during this period.
Nitish Reddy has also got a chance in the team because he is trusted by Gambhir. Even though Reddy has not played much first class cricket yet, he got a chance in the team. Nitish has played 21 matches in the first class, scoring 708 runs in 35 innings at an average of 21.45.
Siraj and Krishna got a chance again
He got a place in the team because of the wishes of Mohammed Siraj and the famous Krishna Jai Shah. Siraj’s performance has been very poor for some time now and he has taken only 8 wickets in 10 innings of 5 matches played at home this year. Prasidh Krishna’s debut match against South Africa went very poorly but still he got a chance in the team. Whereas Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has been scoring runs consistently, has not got a chance in the team.
