Sawan Month Festivals: The month of Saavan is very special and important for Shiva devotees. Sawan is the fifth month of the Hindi calendar and it is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Special worship of Lord Shiva and Jalabhishek is done in Sawan. Lord Shiva is quickly pleased with the worship and Jalabhishek done in this month and bestows his blessings. This is the reason why there is a huge crowd of devotees in Shiva temples during Sawan.
According to Drik Panchang, this year the month of Saavan will start from 30th July and will continue till the full moon of the month of Saavan on 28th August. Keeping fast on Mondays falling during Sawan is considered extremely fruitful. This year, Mondays will fall on 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th August in Sawan. Along with devotion to Shiva, different festivals are also seen in Sawan. Major festivals of Sawan
Sawan Shivratri: After Mahashivratri, the special importance of Saavan Shivratri has been mentioned in the religious scriptures. The festival of Sawan Shivratri is celebrated on the Chaturdashi date of Krishna Paksha of Sawan month. On this day, Jalabhishek and Rudrabhishek of Mahadev are performed in Shiva temples across the country. Kanwadiyas offer water to Mahadev. This year the festival of Sawan Shivratri will be celebrated on 11th August.
Hariyali Teej: The festival of Hariyali Teej is celebrated on the third day of Shukla Paksha of Sawan. On this day, married women keep a fast for the blessings of unbroken good fortune, long life of their husbands and a happy married life. In this fast, women worship Mahadev and Mother Parvati. This year, Hariyali Teej will be celebrated on 15th August in Saavan.
Nag Panchami: The festival of Nag Panchami is celebrated on the fifth day of Shukla Paksha of Sawan. This year the festival of Nag Panchami will be celebrated on 17th August. This day is also an auspicious coincidence of Monday. Nag Devta is worshiped on the day of Nag Panchami. By worshiping the snake god on this day, one gets freedom from Kaalsarp Dosh in the horoscope.
Raksha Bandhan: This year, the festival of Rakshabandhan will be celebrated on 28th August, the full moon day of the month of Sawan. This festival is considered a symbol of the unbreakable love between brother and sister. On this day, sisters tie Raksha Sutra on the wrists of their brothers and brothers take a pledge to protect their sisters throughout their life.
Kanwar Yatra: Kanwar Yatra has been given special importance in Sanatan Dharma. Kanwar Yatra is especially taken out in Sawan. During this time, Shiva devotees bring water from holy rivers in Kanwar and perform Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva. Although Kanwar Yatra is taken out throughout the month of Saavan, but mainly Kanwar Yatra takes place only till Saavan Shivratri.
