Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan instructed the Tourism Department to prepare a 5-year roadmap, special focus on tourism circuit, glamping, guide training and publicity.
Dehradun. Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand, Shri Anand Bardhan conducted a detailed review of the Tourism Department in the auditorium located at the Secretariat on Tuesday. During the meeting, he took information about the progress of all the major schemes of the department. He said that tourism is an important pillar of the economy of Uttarakhand and to take it to new heights, the department will have to move forward with a clear strategy.
The Chief Secretary instructed the officials that the Tourism Department should set its targets for the next five years. Based on these goals, outcome indicators should be determined, so that the success of the schemes can be effectively evaluated.
Emphasis on Uttarakhand tourism promotion, instructions to prepare annual publicity plan
The Chief Secretary said that the success of any tourism product depends on its effective promotion. If there is no wide publicity of tourist places and activities, it will not be easy to achieve the set targets. He instructed the Tourism Department to prepare a separate annual action plan for publicity. Through this, the tourism products of the state should be better recognized at the national and international level.
Events like Neeti Extreme Ultra Run, Adi Kailash Marathon will get a new identity
In the meeting, he said that on the lines of events like Niti Extreme Ultra Run-2026, Adi Kailash High Altitude Marathon, River Rafting Festival and Winter Carnival organized in Niti Valley, different theme based programs should be organized regularly in other areas of the state. He suggested that the date of such events should be fixed every year, so that tourists can plan their trip in advance. Such events will play an important role in branding the state as well as attracting tourists.
Instructions for making short term, medium term and long term tourism planning
The Chief Secretary asked the officials to prepare short-term, medium-term and long-term plans for tourism development. He directed to pay special attention to developing tourist circuits, identifying new tourist destinations and creating necessary infrastructure facilities. He also said that participation of private investors should be increased in hotel, hospitality and tourism projects, so that new investment opportunities can be created in the tourism sector.
Special focus will be on inclusive and sustainable tourism development
The Chief Secretary said that new tourist destinations should be continuously developed in the state. Also, tourism development should be such that it is environment friendly and promotes balanced development of all regions. He stressed on adopting an inclusive and sustainable tourism model, so that every area of the state can get the benefits of tourism.
Special emphasis on guide training and glamping projects for youth.
In the meeting, the Chief Secretary talked about giving institutional form to the guide training program for the youth of the state. He suggested that the services of Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) could be taken for this. Training modules should be prepared in such a way that the trained youth can get employment opportunities not only in Uttarakhand but also in the country and abroad.
He also gave instructions to make special efforts under the Vibrant Village Scheme. Also said that at present the demand for glamping projects is increasing rapidly. In such a situation, modern glamping facilities should be developed by identifying suitable places, so that new experiences can be provided to the tourists.
Secretary Mr. Dhiraj Garbyal, Additional Secretary Mr. Abhishek Rohila and other senior officials of the Tourism Department were also present in the meeting.
