There was ‘they’ and there is ‘you’… Neeraj Pandey’s ‘Sikandar Ka Muqaddar’ ruined or inhabited?

The name of one famous director-producer is- Prakash Mehra, another director-writer of today is- Neeraj Pandey. Prakash Mehra made Muqaddar Ka Sikandar in 1978. Neeraj Pandey has made the destiny of Alexander in 2024. One is larger than life, box office blockbuster in cinemascope and the other is larger than emotion in OTT. After reading these lines you will say – What is the comparison between them? Absolutely ridiculous. Pure nonsense. Baseless talk. The anger is absolutely justified. But if a filmmaker openly plays with the title of a popular film like this, twists its form, then what should the audience and critics do? How not to do this, it is the help of branding to become popular.

Remember- Dreamgirl? One was Dreamgirl with the evergreen pair of Dharmendra-Hema Malini, whose song is famous- A poet’s ghazal Dreamgirl… But after almost four decades, Ayushmann Khurrana has become a different kind of dreamgirl. Similarly, in the eighties, producer Yash Johar made a classic film with Amitabh Bachchan-Shatrughan Sinha – Dostana, its song was also famous – Stay safe our friend… But later, when his son Karan Johar made a film of the same name, he changed the concept like Dreamgirl.

New imagination and new reality

Well, this argument is acceptable that when generations change, the thinking changes, the way of life changes, the basis for distinguishing between truth and lie changes, the concept of theft and swindling changes, the story of the film changes, the character of the hero changes. The portrayal changes, the reality changes and so does the ground of imagination. The village changes, the city changes and so does the metropolis. Director-writer Neeraj Pandey, who is known for creating new imagination and new reality in his films, is also visible in Sikandar Ka Muqaddar. Some filmmakers have caught the attention of audiences and critics because they have the confidence that they have the ability to create something different.

Neeraj Pandey has tried to do the same in Sikandar Ka Muqaddar with stars like Jimmy Shergill, Avinash Tiwari, Tamannaah Bhatia, Divya Dutta. Not only the title was changed but the taste of the story was also changed. Now success or failure depends on how much the audience liked the maturity with which he tried to film the thriller. For information, let us tell you that along with the direction, the script of Sikandar Ka Muqaddar has also been written by Neeraj Pandey.

story of vicious mind

Be it Prakash Mehra’s Muqaddar Ka Sikandar or Neeraj Pandey’s Sikandar Ka Muqaddar – the hero of both the films is accused of theft. And that accusation becomes a threat to the hero’s peaceful life. The allegation of theft in ‘Dewar’ is also the foundation of the story. The hero suffers from its sting all his life, which he struggles with to forget. The characters of Sikandar Sharma, Kamini Singh and Mangesh Desai in this film also say the same. He is struggling to establish himself but in his destiny there is only destruction.

Neeraj Pandey’s Sikandar Ka Muqaddar, released on Netflix, is a slightly vicious story. The director-writer has tried to shock the audience mentally through this. Neeraj’s specialty is that he keeps breaking the expectations of the audience while watching the film. Things happen on screen that the audience cannot even imagine or that their imagination cannot reach. In recent years, such scenes that deviate from the traditional climax have been seen a lot in some films. Take the end of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 for example. It has also been used in Sikandar Ka Muqaddar. But Neeraj Pandey must have got feedback on how easily the audience understood its meaning.

You are a thief, I am a soldier’s game

Sikandar ka Muqaddar shows the uniqueness of creating stories within stories. The thief is playing a game of subterfuge and subterfuge of the policeman. Here the audience does not move forward on the single story of a nuclear family like Drishyam. However, this is a weak thriller compared to Drishyam. In the process of making the story multi-dimensional, the audience gets lost and its purpose seems beyond understanding. The main character Sikandar Sharma (Avinash Tiwari) along with two other characters Kamini Singh (Tamanna Bhatia) and Mangesh Desai (Rajeev Mehta) are accused of theft of precious diamonds worth Rs 50-60 crores, all three try to get free from it, sometimes legally and sometimes socially. Fight battles and endure many hardships.

On the other hand, the police officer Jaswinder Singh (Jimmy Shergill), who is investigating the case, has a record of hundred percent detection, he is sure that diamonds worth crores have been stolen by one of these three. Despite the case being dismissed from the court and being dismissed from the job, he is adamant on his insistence, he is a beast of his stubbornness. While continuing the investigation, he keeps Sikandar Sharma on his radar on every front. Sikandar considers this action as torture by the police. But in the eyes of the police, he is no less than Natwarlal or Bunty Chor.

Intricacies of picturization

The equation has been disturbed due to the story dominating the direction of this film. The story initially seems to focus on police torture but later the picture changes. In the film, maximum emphasis has been given to the events and characterization. Of course, the acting of the actors is strong and the story itself tells that human nature is subject to the delicacy of time. No one is away from opportunism and ambition to reach the top. Some want to become the owner of crores and some want to make their name famous. So many intricacies have been shown in its filming that the audience gets confused and the intention also remains unclear.

That means one was that, this is one. Alexander is at both places, also destined; But whether this Sikandar turns out to be the destined king or not, it would be better to know only after watching the film. Please let the suspense remain.
